Presentation
The existence of the LTDS is the result of the integration of several institutional components and the expansion of themes. In 1970, Professor Jean-Marie Georges founded the Surface Technology Laboratory - which would become an Associated Research Unit of the CNRS in 1992 - based on early research in surface physics and chemistry and tribology. In 1995, the laboratory became the Mixed Research Unit of the CNRS, the ECL and enISE, integrated new themes in solid and vibration mechanics, balanced fundamental and applied research, consolidated its national reputation and international industry in the industrial and academic world. The years 2008-2010 devote an important importance to the structuring of the laboratory internationally in Japan and China, in particular, and to the portage of projects of excellence in the mechanics of living tissues, surface engineering, dynamics rotating machines.
